Portugal D2 – Entrepreneur Visa

The Portugal D2 visa was created to attract foreign entrepreneurs who want to invest in Portugal by establishing small or medium-sized businesses with economic, technological, or cultural relevance. Portugal’s high quality of life, safety, lower cost of living, pleasant climate, skilled workforce, and competitive corporate tax rates make it an attractive destination for entrepreneurs.

The D2 visa is designed for entrepreneurs, freelancers, and independent professionals from outside the EU and Schengen Area who want to start a new business, expand an existing one, or transfer their business operations to Portugal.

Unlike the Golden Visa, the D2 visa does not require a fixed minimum investment amount. However, many advisors recommend investing at least €5,000 to demonstrate the credibility and viability of your business plan.

Your business proposal will be assessed based on financial viability and its potential economic, social, or technological contribution to Portugal.

Who Is Qualified to Apply?

The D2 visa is open to non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizens who:

  • Want to start a business in Portugal
  • Or already have a business operating in Portugal but have not yet applied for the visa

After five years of legal residence in Portugal, applicants can apply for permanent residency or Portuguese citizenship.

During these five years, applicants must spend at least 90 days per year in Portugal to maintain residency status.
